Unashamed

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[a] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith." Romans 1:16-17

I love this passage because of how it gets to the heart of our identity as ambassadors for Christ on this earth. “I am not ashamed of the Gospel.” This verse calls our hearts to attention.

This verse invites us to reorient our hearts with how precious the gospel is. It is the treasure hidden in a field that is worth giving up everything for. “It is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.” This Scripture reminds us that this good news we’ve been entrusted with is literally the answer to every human need, every heart cry, every sin, and every ounce of brokenness that exists in this world. And it is entirely a gift from God, received by us through faith. Jesus took our place, died a brutal death, and conquered the grave, all for us! He did the work. And we get to receive His righteousness as a gift! From start to finish, it is by faith. How good is this good news? It is simply perfect.

When we call our hearts to meditate on just how good God is, we realize He is completely worth giving up everything for. How could I ever be ashamed of this gospel if it’s just that good? It’s worth stepping out for, being mis-understood for, rejected for, and even dying for, and Paul knew that full well. It’s worth living a life that boldly testifies, “I am not ashamed of the gospel!” Because I know how good it is, I know how powerful it is, and I know how desperate this world is to taste it! So let this passage be an invitation for you today, to live as Paul lived, boldly unashamed of the gospel because he knew its power. The gospel is the answer for every single person on this earth, and we get the incredible privilege of leading them to it.
